Second Class Visit to the Mart!

9th Jun 2024
Last Thursday morning, Ms. Rawle's and Ms. Moore's Second Classes embarked on an exciting trip to the local cattle mart in Ballymahon. The children were eager to learn about cattle and the workings of a livestock market.

Upon arrival, the children were warmly greeted by Mr. William Jones, the mart manager, who had organised a special guided tour. The adventure began with a visit to the auction ring, where Mr. Jones explained how cattle auctions work. The students watched as a group of cows were brought into the ring and listened to the rapid-fire auctioneer calling out bids. They learned about the different breeds of cattle and the reasons why farmers buy and sell livestock.

The visit to the mart was a memorable and educational experience, providing the children with a deeper understanding of agriculture and livestock management. They returned to school with a newfound appreciation for the role of cattle in our food system and the efforts of the farming community.
